Sesh 2: More Brainstorming
Hokay! Team met up Friday 29th January to check out the Metalworks Gallery and brainstorm some more. The following are all the notes/ideas we got down:
Absentees - Anthony Turner (not sure if he exists yet =/)
Ideas
The jacks were one of the displays that caught our eye, thinking we could make a little mini-game in flash based on it.
The scissors are cool.
What's our target audience supposed to be? Queston for curator when we get chance to speak with her.
Probably going to use Gamemaker although we discussed possibilities of using Flash with a simpler form of interactivity such as clicking on the location your game persona wants to go to and an animated sequence follows.
Ben liked the razor.
The drawers beneath the displays are a nice touch, we could use them as a style for buttons in flash etc.
Maybe an intro video leading to the interactive elements. Intro video could be zoomed in on engravings in metal, camera following the engravings like some kind of course or path, then zooming out after a while to show the whole object which could be a logo or something.
We all like the turtle =)
Candlesticks are pretty nice, may be able to use that as a theme somewhere?
Some form of wordplay with the word 'Metal', such as heavy metal music etc?
The area where you can stamp a bookmark thing (i forget what they're called now) would be good as an interactive feature in our product.
We all agreed we should read up a little on the history/background of Sheffield's metal works etc.
Spooooooooooooooons (maybe use the o's like Google does when you conduct a search)
The section with odd metal instruments in the form of eating utensils etc. and the questions written beneath them could be turned into another interactive element of our product.
The pen knives are really eyecatching, we can maybe use the pen knife theme for buttons in the interactive elements of our product, where the knives etc that slide out of the pen knife are the buttons.
Team all agreed we're quite settled on the idea of an intro animation, leading into a Pokemon style game. The game would be a recreation of the Metalworks Gallery, and the viewer would explore this virtual world and interact with it to find things such as minigames and video clips.
Wondering if we can include some photographs of the gallery or not?
The section of the gallery with videos could be another interactive element of our product.
How much information would the curator like us to display to the audience? We don't want to overload the audience or show them so much that they feel visiting the gallery itself becomes unneccessary.
Team agreed we probably won't be using any live camera footage of our own, as our team consists of 2 games design students and 2 animation students (possibly a flm and vfx student though we're not sure), so playing to our strengths we'll focus on the games and animated aspects more.

Ideas
- Virtual Tour options. Panoramas and hotspots could be used.
- Live action/animated advertisement, with links and buttons at the end for more information.
- RPG style game using Gamemaker or Flash, recreating the layout of the Metalworks Gallery. User may then explore virtual world leading to links and panoramas or videos and animation.

Introduction
So, this blog space will be detailing the progress of our integrated project group. We have been assigned the task of creating a piece of interactive video in the form of web-based advertisement or a learning application. The goal of this assignment is to bring awareness to and promote the Metalworks Gallery of Sheffield's Millenium Galleries.
